The Story
There is a popular story about how Turkey came to have its distinctive flag. During the Turkish War of Independence, Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey, Who was then a leader of army, was involved in a particularly bloody battle. A lot of lives were lost and it seemed to him as if the entire battlefield was covered in blood. Looking the sky, He saw a crescent moon and a single star. The blood, The moon and The star are the three elements which he choose to make up the flag of the new state.
